Black History Month 2024
February 1, 2024
As February 2024 unfolds its pages to present Black History Month, we embrace this time to reflect, celebrate and honor the profound contributions of African American heroes whose strength and brilliance have shaped not just a nation, but the world.
This month Watts would like to shine light on some of our country’s African American luminaries whose rich narratives have been woven into history of Buffalo & Erie County. From the trailblazing, Minnie Gillette, first African American woman elected to Erie County Legislature, to the influential journey of Reverend J. Edward Nash, Sr., each legacy is a beacon of inspiration in the ongoing quest for progress.
Join us in recognizing these leaders of change - past and present - whose lives are immortalized, not only by the portraits displayed on the Freedom Wall dedicated in their honor, but by the lives they've inspired.
Let's celebrate together, with minds and hearts wide open, as we pay homage to the men and women who dared to dream and act for the cause of justice. Here’s to a month of learning, appreciation, and profound respect.
Spread the word, share the love & let us know anyone that brings inspiration and hope to you.
