This week, we’re heading to Bronx Community College to take a closer look at the Hall of Fame for Great Americans!
Built in 1901, the Hall of Fame was designed by renowned architect Stanford White of McKim, Mead & White and was the first hall of fame in the US. The 630-foot-long open-air loggia features colonnades, historic plaques, and bronze portrait busts honoring prominent Americans.
Today, the Hall of Fame is part of Bronx Community College, and planned renovation work will address loose limestone, mortar, and terra cotta roof tiles along the walkway.
Before that work can begin, Watts is providing hazardous materials surveys to identify potential environmental hazards that could be disturbed during construction, including asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, PCBs in caulks and sealants, universal waste, hazardous materials, and mold-contaminated building materials.
Identifying these materials early helps the project team plan for safe construction, develop appropriate budgets, and protect building occupants and workers.

From a 1901 landmark to today’s environmental planning, our work often takes us behind the scenes of some pretty remarkable places.
