Project Update: Penn Yan's "Enhance Pedestrian Experience"
October 21, 2024
Been to Penn Yan lately?
Watts is thrilled to be part of the Village of Penn Yan's 'Enhance the Pedestrian Experience' project, thanks to a Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant from the NYS Department of State! There were three separate components of the overall project, including:
- Expanding Parks & Trails Network - Enhancements to Indian Pines Park and Lake Street Playground will create inviting spaces for residents and visitors. Elements like waterfront seating, public boat docks, new playground facilities, and scenic overlooks that connect nature with local businesses.
- Streetscape Improvements for Downtown - Improvements along Water and Wagener Streets will boost walkability, add parking, and install beautiful, historically appropriate lighting that extends Main Street's character.3. Revitalizing
- Maiden Lane & Main Street - Redevelop Maiden Lane into a vibrant pedestrian promenade with clearly defined pedestrian ways and eye-catching public art and enhance Main Street with fresh curbed tree planters and new concrete sidewalk replacement for pedestrian safety.
Our Civil Team already kicked off the project with thorough topographic surveys, innovative and thorough plans, and some construction administration tasks. The project is expected to be complete for the 2025 summer season.
Stay tuned for updates as the project progresses, but for now, enjoy these "walking tour" photos from Rob Frazer from late August. Rob is Watts' Lead Designer and Project Manager for our portion of the work. Nice job, Rob!
