Buffalo Bills Stadium Improvements
Orchard Park, New York
Watts was part of the consultant team for what was at the time, New Era Field, home to the NFL’s Buffalo Bills. The stadium underwent a $130 million multi-phased renovation project to offer the fans of western New York a state of the art facility and outstanding fan experience.
Improvements throughout the stadium included: creation of a new west end plaza; new wider entry gates; renovated and expanded concessions, restrooms; a new Commissary building; new Team Store, and renovations and expansion of the Team Training Facility.
The site work occurred over about 14 acres and involved major modifications to the stadium perimeter including utility relocations, new ADA access ramps and stairs, pedestrian plazas, parking paving, fencing, admission gates, security features, stormwater management, lighting, and landscaping.
Structural engineering services were provided for the $1.1M entrance gate canopies, ticket booths, sign pylons, fences, and renovations to the Administration building.
The $8.5 million Commissary Building is a new stand-alone 33,500 sf building housing food service operations for the stadium, as well as offices for Delaware North Companies, and an online retail warehouse. Watts provided architectural, structural, and civil design and construction administration services for the Commissary Building and adjacent grounds.
The $7.5 million Training Facility project renovated and expanded the 36,000 SF existing building. The expansion included a new state of the art locker room, weight room, and cafeteria. Renovations include enhancements to the kitchen, cafeteria, loading dock area, and a television broadcast room. Watts was responsible for architectural, structural, and civil design of the Training Facility and adjacent grounds.
Watts also worked directly for Erie County to perform the necessary asbestos abatement design documents, plans and specifications for pre-demolition asbestos abatement.
Watts also provided on-site construction observation for civil engineering services directly for the Buffalo Bills under a separate contract as well.
