Millburn, New York
Watts was the prime consultant to the New York State Thruway Authority in providing engineering services related under a Statewide Hydrology & Hydraulic Services term contract.
Under this term contract, Watts evaluated a flooding problem on the mainline NYS Thruway and identified engineering solutions to this condition. A preferred alternative was chosen and advanced to final design and construction. Included in the work were environmental studies, permitting, hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, survey, geotechnical evaluations and final design.
The preferred alternative consisted of an 800 ft. concrete flood barrier wall with a stormwater pumping station. The pumping station design included three 60-hp pumps, a backup power generator, motorized sluice gates, a control structure, and remote operation via wireless internet. A FEMA Letter of Map Revision was filed for this site to alter the regulatory floodway. Watts also provided construction services including submittal review and permitting assistance.
