BPS School No. 82, Reconstruction of the Early Childhood Center
Buffalo, New York
School #82 - Early Childhood Center originally housed approximately 450 students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. This project involved renovating the existing 65,000 SF building to create 21st Century learning environments for 375 students.
The existing building was updated by bringing it up to current building codes, refurbishing approximately 280 original wood windows, a 20,000 SF roof replacement of the existing roofing system with an SBS-Modified Bituminous roofing system, replacing five existing skylights with new skylights, restoring the existing auditorium, and relocating and updating the existing cafeteria with new kitchen equipment. The school is 80 years old and considered a historic building eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The project was formally submitted to the New York State Historic Preservation Office for review prior to bid.
Watts provided all architectural and engineering design services for School #82 from Design Development to Construction Administration for this $8.9 million project.
