Sugarman Law Firm Office Renovations
Buffalo, New York
When Sugarman Law Firm decided to renovate their offices located in the Rand Building in downtown Buffalo, the partners chose Watts to provide professional design services. Sugarman and the project team agreed upon a concept of transparency and austerity to guide their decisions. Using this theme, Watts transformed the offices into an attractive and functional flow of interconnected spaces.
Watts was tasked with remodeling the key public spaces: the lobby, reception area, conference room, an open office suite and public corridors. In addition, each private office received a face-lift. At the reception area, walls were opened up, doors removed and glazed storefront partitions placed in keeping with the concept. These moves in concert with a continuous floor covering worked to visually enlarge the small reception area. Colors and finishes were carefully selected to initially present a dignified yet updated appearance. Modern lighting, furnishings, custom casework and a custom reception desk all work together to invigorate the work environment.
In opposition to the design concept of "transparency", privacy remained necessary to maintain client/attorney privilege. The design team was able to manage our client's needs while providing transparency by carefully placing glazing at key demising walls. Now, as clients and attorneys step off the elevators, stunning views of Lake Erie enhance the viewshed through the reception and conference room.
