SUNY Buffalo State University's New Technology Building is located in the center of Campus on the former site of the central bakery and laundry facilities of the State Hospital for the Insane (aka Buffalo Psychiatric Center). The Technology Building is the new home for mechanical and electrical engineering technology, industrial technology, fashion and textile technology, and computer information programs. The facility includes spaces for advanced research and computer labs. A unique site element is the south exterior plaza. This space is located outside the high bay doors of the mechanical and shared technology shops and labs to provide outdoor work space for solar experiments and instruction.
The building was completed in late summer 2013 and is LEED Gold Certified. Watts provided civil engineering design and construction administration services for site design, utilities, grading, steam tunnel, storm drainage and stormwater management for the ±87,000 GSF building. The total project cost was approximately $36.5 million.
