William Street Post Office, Boiler Replacement Project
Buffalo, New York
Watts provided an evaluation survey, replacement design and construction assistance for the hot water boiler system at the William Street Post Office. The evaluation recommended replacing the two, oversized Cleaver Brooks, 435 BHP fire-tube boilers with new energy efficient boilers and controls to meet code. A survey report was prepared to summarize the options, the budget costs, the energy costs and recommendations.
Watts recommended replacing the existing boilers with three, three million BTU modular, high efficiency (i.e., 94%) condensing boilers appropriately sized for the building conditions and controlled to provide optimum energy efficiency. The design also replaced the existing hydronic pumps with new pumps equipped with premium efficient motors and variable speed drives.
Watts also provided construction support services. The bid price was $10,000 below our construction estimate.
