Binghamton University, East Campus Housing
Binghamton, New York
The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York and Binghamton University underwent a multi-year, multi-phased project to create a $300 million comprehensive dormitory upgrade project.
Several dormitories from the 1960’s were demolished in order to make room for the new East Campus Housing buildings. Watts provided the structural engineering and asbestos/environmental survey and design services required prior to demolition. For the second phase of the project, Watts also provided project monitoring and air sampling services during asbestos abatement.
Watts also designed the fire protection systems the new seven-story, 200 bed dormitories that are part of the new Newing and Dickinson Residential Complexes.
All eight buildings have been completed and the site utilities and roads have been reconstructed around the new buildings. The buildings are occupied and have been well received by the Campus, Community and Students housed within them.
