Building Information Modeling
Watts believes that in today’s A/E business climate it is essential to keep pace with the technological advances driving the industry. Building Information Modeling (BIM) is revolutionizing projects during the design, documentation, delivery and construction phases in the design and construction industries. With BIM, a seamless method of communicating and exchanging information stimulates work flow, increases productivity and has the potential of delivering a highly accurate set of design documents. Watts has geared up to meet this challenge by acquiring the required software and hardware as well as providing the necessary training for our employees across all disciplines.
During the design process, the building is modeled in three dimensions and resides as a virtual 3-D representation in computer memory. This concept provides designers with a powerful tool that can prevent conflict among various building systems. It facilitates material counts for cost estimating and enables creation at will of optimum plans and sections that incorporate the inventory of building components that are most appropriate for the specific project.
Members of our architecture, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and structural engineering departments are utilizing BIM technology with Autodesk Revit and Revit Structure. We also utilize Autodesk Navisworks Manage for clash detection.
